The ships were built in Finland for the Finish Coast guard / boarder control in 1999 and 2004.

The main tasks of the vessel are the sea salvage and guarding of the sea frontier.
The vessels are designed to operate in all weather conditions. Fully air-conditioned. Fully heated. Ice class. Can operate both in hot and cold weather conditions.
The vessels is also suited for OILREC operations. For assisting duties concerning oil pollution there is oil boom equipment.
For preserving fire damages there is effective water monitors with range 100 meters. The vessels have integrated rib boat launch system with a 7,4 meter patrol RIB that can be launched even in bad weather conditions.
For long time standby guard duty operations the ships can operate in DP standby mode only utilizing the retractable azimuth thruster with very low fuel consumption.
