The RK-5 is a speed relay for speed control and overspeed shutdown of diesel engines. It measures the frequency from a tachogenerator or magnetic pickup and comes in three versions: RK-5-1 for 0–100 Hz tachogenerators, RK-5-2 for 0–2000 Hz pickups at the timing gear and RK-5-3 for 0–8000 Hz pickups at the flywheel. Two changeover relays and one normally open relay that closes and self-holds at overspeed until it is reset.

The RK-5 is discontinued. In Auto-Maskin's current range, overspeed protection is handled by the Auto-Maskin SDU 404 Safety Shutdown Unit safety shutdown unit.
